A Biography of Ernst Toller
After he had been deprived of his native German citizenship, the writer Ernst Toller (1893–1939) wrote an autobiography, published in English as I Was a German. Toller was an early public anti-Nazi and a key figure in the German exile community in Britain.
Richard Dove is Professor of German at the University of Greenwich in London and a founder member of the Research Centre for German and Austrian Exile Studies in London.
